FIGHTS RULE!!

Last night I had the pleasure of watching hours of fights, drinking beer, and smoking a little bit of fantastic hash with a group men who appreciated  the finer things in life. Fights, booze, drugs and Oh yea, we even order a meaty pizza.

There was a fight double header on last night. Lucky lucky you see, UFC was on for free on Spike and Hatton vs. Mayweather on PPV. We switched back and forth all night from MMA to boxing and it was a very interesting dichotomy. When the UFC was on, energy filled the air, the fights were quick, explosive, bloody and we were on our feet screaming, throwing food and jumping up and down. A click over to boxing and things tamed down a bit, it got quiet, everybody was sitting down and we all ate our food in peace and quiet. A click back to the UFC and we are all on our feet again fists pumped he air, beer spilled to the ground.

The Hatton/Mayweather fight did bring some excitement and the crowd really got everybody in to it. The thing was the ref never got out of the way and he provided an atmosphere in the ring that benefited Mayweather style and took away a big part of Hatton’s game of pressure. Everybody complained boxing was a joke, even though the fight was a very entertaining and dramatic clash of personalities and styles regardless of the ref’s involvement. I did enjoy the fight, thought both fighters did a great job and as much as I hate Mayweather he proved why he is the P4P best boxer on the planet. What I also noticed last night was the complete difference in watching the two sports. I didn’t know if MMA was going to be able to keep riding the wave it has been on for the past 2 years after last nights back and forth comparison, I think the wave is going isn’t gong to break for a long time.

There were mostly boxing fans at the house I was viewing the fights at and after last night they all became UFC fans due to the wonderful matching making, performances from the fighters and heart displayed in 4 great matches and 2 fight of the year candidates.

Good bless the finer things in life. Can’t wait to do it up again soon. War Mixed Martial Arts.

I agree with most of what you said. However, I think Mayweather is a genius and not just in boxing. Someone has to play the heel in combat sports in order to attract attention. Not everyone can be as charismatic as Ali or Leonard. However, everyone can talk trash and exude cockiness.

Without Mayweather insulting the UFC, his opponents, the media and everyone else that can feed PPV buys, we’d be talking about boxing much less…

I agree with you… sort. of. PBF does play his role very well. Maybe he is such a genious that he even got to me with his cocky attitude. The annomisty he brings against him does rally fans around his opponents much more so than if he said nothing at all.

That being said, i still hate the bastard as much as admire his skills and talent. I Hate him more than any boxer i have ever watched, even more than lennox Lewis. That says a lot becasue i pretty much hate the british as well.

I hope there is a day when some one pops him in his pie hole and shuts his ass up. I doubt it will happen. Ill be cheering for whomever is against him.. There is genious in that somewhere. Im just not sure if its all the calculated.
